sultana-1-modified-2 An ardent historian, with a focus on ancient Greek and Byzantine history, Sultana Frazis, graduated the University of South Florida with a degree in history and plans on pursuing her master’s degree in the same discipline. She completed her formal education in the Greek language and, therefore, is as fluent in Greek as she is in English.
She is a loving wife to her husband, Michael, an electrical engineer, with his master’s degree from Columbia University, and a former chief mate with the Greek Merchant Marine. They have been blessed with three adult sons, Nicholas, Demetrios and John, all university graduates and all married. The joys of her and her husband’s lives are their grandchildren: (Nicholas’) Evangelia, Sultana, and Efstathia and (Demetrios’) Michael.
She is also the proud daughter of her father, Nick Costidis, a multi decorated volunteer
WWII veteran who served with the Suicide Commandoes of the Rangers, 1st. Cavalry, 12th Regiment.
She was instrumental with several other concerned people to start the parochial school of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Flushing, NY, in addition to organizing and starting the Parent Teachers Organization. She organized the Hellenic Student Organization of St. Petersburg College in Tarpon Springs, Florida, and was instrumental in the founding of the Nisyrian Organization of Florida as well. She tirelessly served as a den mother and assistant Boy Scouts Leader and served on the committees of both organizations.
Sultana believes passionately in supporting and defending the truth; and when it comes to historical facts, she will not hesitate to go to bat for the truth. She believes that a people must keep themselves busy and active to achieve a fulfilling life. Relaxation for Sultana comes in the form of reading, writing, research, or vacationing in Greece, visiting ancient sites and spending time on the island of Nisyros, from which both her husband and father hail.
